FACTORS AFFECTING JOB SATISFACTION

It is possible to point out several key factors that affect the employee in terms of job satisfaction. The value of his or her satisfaction depends on how those factors affect the employee.

Job satisfaction depends on several different factors such as satisfaction with pay, promotion opportunities, fringe benefits, job security, relationship with co-workers and supervisors, etc.

It is generally accepted by many organization that increasing job satisfaction can reduce employee absences, work errors, job conflicts, co-worker issues and organizational costs.

As work is an important aspect of people’s lives and most people spend a large part of their working lives at work, understanding the factors involved in job satisfaction is crucial to improving employee’s performance and productivity.

Factors affecting the level of job satisfaction are;

1.       Working Environment.

Providing a work environment conducive to the overall development of employees is essential. a healthy environment is a factor that mainly affects the employee. an employee spends most of the day in the organization or in a related environment. if that environment is unsafe, it will adversely affect the employee. Hence, it can be said that having a friendly, and supportive environment can lead to increased job satisfaction.

2.       Fair Policies and Practice.

Unfair policies and corporate practices cause the employee to lose interest in work. As examples include unfair promotions, job transfers and decisions made at the discretion of the bosses.

3.       Caring Organization.

Care can be expressed in different ways but it takes into account professional development, caring for the elderly, taking it seriously and appreciating it for a job well done. When people feel that organization; they work, take care of themselves and take steps to improve their work and lives, they are happy, and this brings high satisfaction.

4.       Appreciation.

Appreciation is one of the most important things a person wants to receive in life. If the organization is able to evaluate the work of the employee, whether it is small or large, The efficiency of the employees as well as the organizational productivity will increase. When appreciation leads to encouragement, the ultimate result is reflected in the efficiency of work automatically.

5.       Pay.

Money not only helps people attain their basic needs but is also brings satisfaction. Employee satisfaction can be enhanced by having a fair salary relative to his duties as well as the correct payment of allowances due by organization.

6.       Age.

One factor that contributes to job satisfaction is age. Various studies in this field have shown that job satisfaction increases with age. That is, older employees tend to report higher job satisfaction, while younger employees say lower job satisfaction rates.

7.       Promotion.

Promotional opportunities seem to have a different effect on job satisfaction. This is because promotions take different forms and have different consequences. In recent years, strategies for leveling and empowering organizations, promoting in the traditional sense, the success of climbing the hierarchical institutional ladder, are no longer as prevalent as they once were.

8.       Safety and Security.

When there is no job security, employee satisfaction is low. Job security can be ensured through methods such as health care, medical testing, pensions and etc. Health insurance is a key component of ensuring the safety of employees. Satisfaction will also increase relative to the value that ensures security.

9.       Responsibilities.

This implies that when an employee is assigned a large responsibility, he or she becomes aware of the fact that the employer thinks he or she is a competent and reliable candidate. Responsibility-related jobs are always highly satisfying. The idea of responsibility and the feeling one feels when responsibility is fulfilled cannot be traded for anything in the world. If an employee is not given any responsibility to handle, the end result will be that the person will feel isolated and have doubts about self-worth, which will immediately affect job satisfaction.

10.   Relationship with Supervisors.

One of the main reasons for resignation is that the head of the organization does not show concern for the employee. A participatory environment created by the supervisor has a significant impact on employee satisfaction rather than participation in a specific decision. Employee’s effective managers know that their employees need recognition and praise for their efforts and achievements. Employee satisfaction also increases if the employee feels that there is no barrier to talking to the boss ay any time.

  3. Guidance gained through a manger other than to boss also making the path for a satisfied employee. A boss also can be a leader but always not. Giving credits to the work done by employee is one the best way to satisfy them. But leaders only do that as boss always tries to get the credits. And also working with a boss inspires fear to employees. But working with a leader generates enthusiasm for employees. If there is enthusiasm among employees it is easy to satisfy them. Not only that , if the employees feel they are using by their leaders, it also caused for the dissatisfaction regarding their job. But leaders don’t use their employees. They always try to develop their employees. Development in their career also able to generate satisfaction regarding their job roll and the company in the employees’ heart.
So I think if the head of the organization becomes a leader instead of a boss also make path to generate satisfied employees. Therefore HR should pay their attention on this matter also.

It indicates the extent of employees’ positive or negative feelings towards their jobs and organizational behavior tried to improve it. Once the HR team identified the causes for the employee dissatisfaction, it is their responsibility to implement strategic process to improve employee satisfaction gradually. 7. Job Satisfaction is basically about how an employee feels about his/her organization and whether they are going to stay or leave? As you have mentioned in the above article it is not only about compensation , for some employees it is only appreciation which connects with emotional preference.

According to my opinion this matter cannot be easily addressed as human thinking patterns and expectations differ from one another. HR departments of organizations should implement innovative processes to maintain job satisfaction at a optimum level to get best out of the employees and to achieve organizational goals. As an example right personnel need to get promoted at the right time.
